This book is interesting but it is difficult to read as it is disjointed and fragmented. It's mostly made up of quotes from literature or the from the citizens of Ireland. I thought it would be a more formal study of the Irish language as it has evolved over the years.I have learned that many of the expressions that I was raised on came from Ireland! My paternal grandmother was Irish but was deceased before I came along. My father however used many of her expressions. I purchased the Kindle edition and the page numbers pop up in the middle of sentences and all over the page. That's never happened to me before.

English as We Speak It in Ireland P W Patrick Weston 18271914 Joyce 9781362185208 Books Reviews
I wanted to get to know more about Ireland as one of Irish Ancestry I AM NOT AN IRISH AMERICAN I was not born in Ireland; I am an American and NO ONE SHOULD ADD ANYTHING TO THAT; no not forget who you are, just don't associate things that are not true! When you become a citizen of another country THEY DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO CALL YOURSELF ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT COUNTRIES NAME why do we allow it!
Interesting differences. Lived in England for 3 years and am already bi-lingual British and American English. Maybe this makes be tri-lingual.
This book is very technical. This was not the book I was needing. Good book for intense studying of the Irish language.
Most interesting book hearing ourselves speak. The connection between our native tongue and how it has contributed directly to our use, often colourfully, to the English we speak is fascinating. Scholarly but appealing to anybody with an interest in the English language.
The book explains why there are different "accent" or ways of pronouncing words in Ireland just like there are here in the USA. Really enjoyed it.
As an author, it's important to write in the vernacular for certain characters, when you're trying to create the right atmosphere.
This book has made that process a bit easier to accomplish.
Thanks for making this book available. My research-benumbed brain thanks you as well.
Considering it was written over 100 years ago, this remarkable book is very accessible, giving insight into how local Irish dialects influenced the English language in the US and around the world. There is much humor, some unintended, and a lot of personal reflection from Mr. Joyce's experience.
